Andrew de Burgh Whyte

Vineyard Technician

I am amazed at the number of different kinds of birds that I have sighted a the winery.

Andrew joined the 40 Knots team in 2016 after retiring from a successful career in forestry and agriculture.

When he immigrated to Canada from Dublin, Ireland, Andrew managed a Federal Government farm near Ottawa for a number of years before moving to the West Coast.

Arriving in BC, Andrew worked at Mt. Boucherie Vineyards (now known as Quails Gate ) in Kelowna, BC under Ben Stewart, owner and former BC Minister of Agriculture. He later worked at Monashee Vineyards in Oliver, BC and lastly at N’K” Mp in Osoyoos, BC, as a machinery operator /charge hand, as he continued to increase his hands-on experience and knowledge of grapes and viticulture. So Andrew brings a wealth of experience and a practical“ can-do” attitude to the 40 Knots vineyard team.

A graduate of Trinity College Dublin with a Diploma in Agriculture, Andrew enjoys discussing the finer points of grape production with George as they attend to the daily operations of the “terroir”.

A keen birder, Andrew has observed over 30 species of birds within the vineyard boundary. A third-generation gardener, Andrew, relaxes by spending time at home in his garden.
