John Schreiner 90 Points: This is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This is a traditional method sparkling wine which was en tirage almost two years. There is a delicate note of brioche in the aroma and on the palate, where it mingles with tangy notes of apple and citrus. The wine has a crisp, refreshing finish. 90.

89 - A chard and pinot blend with a decidedly aldehydic quality - this smells like fino sherry, although it's not supposed to - yeast influence is wild. It pours a pale copper colour showing some pinot skin contact, while the palate adds a vegetal, yeasty, hibiscus component. I admire the effort, and the savoury, gentle umami aspect that draws saliva and additional sips. Value is another consideration. Tasted March 2025.
89 - Michael Godel
Spindrift is a very Vancouver Island expression denoting “the spray blown from the crests of waves by the wind.” And a sparkling spray of a traditional method wine it is composed of chardonnay and pinot noir aged on the lees for approximately 20 months, give or take. Made in an Extra-Brut style which means a bit more residual sugar than Brut (therefore +/-12 g/L) and a good thing because 2021 threw a very hot summer leading to early picking and extra richness in the fruit. Comes across as an autolytic and oxidative bubble, deep golden of hue, gingered and spicy. Mimics some Cap Classique from South Africa and shows off no shortage of full-flavoured personality. Drink 2025-2027. Tasted March 2025.
Vineyard Notes
2021 saw the hottest days of history in Comox hitting 38°c on June 27th, but over 40°c in the vineyard with many other sweltering days from June through August. The average sunlight was between 14 and 16 hours during the growing period with an average monthly precipitation of 3.6cm.
Winemaker Notes

One of the best Canadian Bruts, I know I have tried so many. Yeasty, large flavour across the palette, with a fresh clean finish that lingers in your mouth.

Such a versatile bubbly. Have a glass (or more) on a warm, sunny day. Clear the grey days. Have it with a meal. Goes with so much. Or drop some Cassis in it for something entirely different. Mmm mmm good.
