Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
40 Knots Gamay bursts with juicy ripe berries, balanced by fresh acidity, soft tannins, and a touch of spice and earthiness. Light-bodied yet vibrant, it finishes smooth and fruit-forward, making it perfect for pairing with charcuterie, roasted poultry, or simply enjoying on its own.
Vineyard Notes
The 2023 vintage on the Comox Peninsula was exceptional, thanks to a favorable climate. After a strong start with good moisture, a warm May spell boosted vine vitality. Cooling temperatures and rain led to an early harvest, with careful handpicking to ensure the best quality and capture the unique characteristics of each varietal.
Winemaker Notes
What can we say, we got Knotty! Destem to bin ferment, cold soak skins for 4 days. Punch daily. Inoc Gamay and Pinot with classic D254. Inoc Cab Libre with BM4x4 to increase polysaccarides, bind green polyphenol. Press before cap sink, age all in stainless (Knotty I know), micro-ox Gamay on medium toast oak and Pinot in light to medium plus toasted oak. Blend and stablize. Very natural and traditional may produce tartrates. Bottle by hand, label by hand. Intimate.

Delicious and complex. Beautiful light ruby colour with great clarity. Notes of mollasses, rhubarb and raspberry. Delightfully light and easy to drink given the alcohol content and depth of flavour. Be careful opening around friends - you'll want to keep it all to yourself!

My fav 40 knots red. It's bold and hits you in the cheeks, but finishes round and warm. Not going to get bored of this one :) bonus pts for supporting a great local winery run by wonderful and friendly people.

Lucky to try the Carambolage at a holiday party recently. A medium wine that went well with everything I sampled food wise. Everyone at the table enjoyed this red!

One of my favourites at 40Kts. I love this wine paired with Turkey.

A very nice red wine that brings out the flavours of hard cheeses and goes well with chocolate.
