Ratings
93 Points - Dr. Jamie Goode: Aged in amphora. Grandly bottled and wax sealed. This has beautifully elegant red cherry, strawberry and redcurrant fruit with some brisk acidity, but it integrates well. There’s some silkiness here, and the fruit is just on the right side of the cusp of ripeness, and it shows lovely delicacy as well as appropriate structure. A lovely cool-climate Pinot Noir with potential for development in bottle. 93/100
92 Points - John Schreiner: The wine is made with clone 777 and clone 115 grapes. The grapes were harvested over an extended period of time, allowing the winemaker to select fruit at its prime. The fermentation process began with a cold soak of four to seven days. The wine was aged in a variety of vessels, including an amphora. The wine begins with aromas of raspberry, cherry and spice. There is good weight on the palate, with flavours of cherry and pomegranate. The finish lingers. 92.
92 - David Lawrason
This is expensive in its class, but it joins the top echelons of BC pinot noir, with that certain lightness and tenderness of Vancouver Island pinot. It is impeccably made and well balanced. The nose shows lifted, classic pinot red cherry, subtle rose, a touch of evergreen and finely honed wood spice and toast. It is light to medium bodied, almost silky yet juicy, with a slightly tart finish. Tannins are mild. There is terrific integration here. The length is excellent. Tasted March 2025
Vineyard Notes
The 2023 vintage on the Comox Peninsula was exceptional, thanks to a favorable climate. After a strong start with good moisture, a warm May spell boosted vine vitality. Cooling temperatures and rain led to an early harvest, with careful hand-picking to ensure the best quality and capture the unique characteristics of each varietal.
Winemaker Notes
What can we say, we got Knotty! Hand harvested over 2-weeks, destem to bin ferment, cold soak skins for 4-7 days. Punch daily. Inoc Pinot with classic D254. Press just prior to cap sink, age all in stainless (Knotty I know), micro-ox Pinot Free run and pressings in separate vessels simulated at different altitudes, ranging from Comox Valley all the way to Mount Washington, with light to medium plus toasted oak. Blend and stablize. Very natural and traditional may produce tartrates. Bottle by hand, label by hand, hand wax. Intimate.
